Hayley, 5yo GSDX

About Hayley.

Hayley has been with us since November 2021. She was born in Romania and originally was rehomed via Fife Dog Rescue, known there as Sweety. We don’t know her exact breeding, she’s listed as a crossbreed on her passport, but she has some German Shepherd traits.

Hayley came to us when her owner was terminally ill and has sadly since passed away. She’s reactive to other dogs and as the lady was elderly, Hayley was too strong for the lady to hold onto. As with many of the Romanian street dogs she cannot be trusted off lead so Hayley was only in the garden.

We have recently introduced her to two staff dogs who she has thoroughly enjoyed playing with, although there’s still a lot of work to be done in regards to reactivity, it’s a positive step for us all.

She loves human affection, and playing with toys, she would be cuddled all day!

November 2022
Hayley has recently been diagnosed with hip dysplasia, she’s now receiving daily pain medication to try and help her, in the hope it might also have been part of the reason she gets herself in such a tizzy. So far, no marked improvement!

What kind of home do we need for Hayley?

Hayley doesn’t need a huge amount of exercise, a brisk walk daily and plenty of garden play would suffice. She is not going to enjoy walking in a built up area or busy park, she can cope with dogs at a distance but doesn’t like them to run up to her. Narrow walkways and public parks are not for her.

Hayley should have a secure garden so she can get off lead exercise however if the garden is adjacent to a busy footpath your neighbours might not be so happy. Hayley has never been around children and can sometimes get a bit teethy during play so might not be suited to smaller kids.
