Macy was surrendered to us because she had nipped a child and attacked 2 small dogs, initially fostered by a staff member who had always wanted a Kelpie.
Once in our care we discovered Macy was suffering from hip dysplasia, although she never shows any real sign of discomfort she’s on low-cost pain relief and supplements. Macy will not be suited to a very active home but would love regular mild exercise.
Macy is generally an easy dog to live with. At home she’s calm and rests a lot, although loves to play with her many balls and soft toys. Outdoors she enjoys walks in the fields, her recall is very good, and she walks well on lead. But she is very reactive to small dogs, and will require a strong person to hold on to her, and more training to improve it.
Although she was fostered with another dog, and they get along well, Macy tends to be quite possessive over toys, people, and occasionally food. In her previous home she was the only dog and we feel that’s what would be preferred for her, however it’s not a strict requirement.
Macy has a high prey drive and will want to chase wildlife, and cats. She will come back when called, but this makes her unsuitable to live with cats or other small pets.
What kind of home are we looking for?
Macy would struggle in a town surrounded by many small dogs, she would hate it if they were next door. She’s lived in a village before and thrived there, being a herding dog from working lines she loves the outdoors so something more rural or easy access to the countryside would be desirable.
