Barney is now 11 years of age and was adopted a few years ago from PADS. Sadly, family circumstances mean that Barney will now need to find another home. His adopted Mum has jotted down some details about Barney and she is happy to facilitate a home from home adoption, which we will support. Please see details provided by her below:
He’s a very friendly / affectionate dog, fun of character and is a wonderful companion. His breed means he has a ‘go-to’ person in his life.
Barney is very excited when visitors come to the house, can be bouncy and bark (big bark) however he does settle and is very chilled most of the time.
He has a bit of separation anxiety when left alone, barks for a time however seems to settles quickly.
He’ll chat away when he get tummy rubs, which he almost always looks for.
Recent medical history – 10 weeks ago in mid Apr Barney suddenly had difficulty walking and had noticeable issues his rear end. The Vet diagnosed a spinal issue and agreed with conservative treatment prescribing gabapentin and Pardale and confinement apart from toilet breaks for the first 4-6 weeks min. With follow up appointments and support from vet friends, he has had the all clear and is out twice a day for 15-20min walks at the moment. We were going out for 30-45 mins. He is now restricted from going up stairs and jumping up or going on sofas. The vet has suggested ramps (for car) and a back harness for stairs, as precaution.
He always prefers to toilet on a walk and will hold number 2’s until he is out. He’s typically good on the lead, can pull initially particularly if he’s needing the toilet or on the scent of a female doggy. He adores females dogs, can be a bit unpredictable with other male dogs and seems to react to cats.
As he’s double coated I brush him with a slicker brush to reduce the inner coat, the groomer hand trims him as Barney doesn’t like the clippers at all.
He would suit ground floor living, with owner/s that are around most of the time and can love him for his gorgeously cheeky stubborn self.
