Ringo, 1yo Lurcher

Ringo had a holiday at Scot’s house over Christmas and Scot wanted me to give his honest take, as a Lurcher experienced family, on their observations with him:

  • He is great with other dogs and Liath (15yo 3 legged lurcher) in particular loves him (see photo below)
  • Every neighbour and person who has met him has committed how calm and laid back he is. He actually makes Tess (Scot’s young Lurcher also adopted from us) look like a complete maniac – she is the one who wants to run around in the house causing chaos and play non-stop.
  • He hasn’t chewed a single thing in the house. Even with presents lying around, wrapping paper and all sorts of stuff he has shown the slightest interest in chewing anything – except the deer antler I gave him and part of an old knuckle bone, he loves both of these. He has shown a bit of interest in food lying around, but is very receptive to being told no, and will now sit before getting treats and served his dinner.
  • He is incredibly loving and calm around the house. When we go to bed he goes straight to his bed and curls up sleeping through the whole night. He happily lies beside us watching TV. Several times I have panicked as I have thought he has escaped the house – it turns out he is just curled up in a corner sleeping. To be honest. If it had been the other way around and we had Ringo first, then Tess came in then the decision would have been easier. Tess is the one who keeps riling him up and causing the chaos in the house as she just wants to play with him constantly. In a way this is a relief for Liath as she isn’t constantly being knocked over and chewed…
  • He is incredibly faithful and if I get up from one room he gets up and follows me, lying down again until I move.
  • He does love to run (as you have detailed on the website) and will need this exercise daily – I suspect his destructive side came from not being able to burn off his energy daily – he has lots. So he will be suited to a family who like being outdoors and going on long walks.
  • He will be more than suited in a house with other dogs. Even when Tess and Liath have been jealous and snapped at him, he has just stopped and crouched down submissive, wagging his tail. He hasn’t shown a single sign of aggression.
  • We’ve had visitors to the house, and been to other peoples houses and he has been perfect meeting other people and kids. He just wants cuddles basically.
  • Walking on the lead he is perfect. When he has had a chance to run around in the dog park he hasn’t wanted to pull at all. In fact, I have tripped on him several times as he walks by my side, almost leaning into me.
  • Basically, he is a perfect dog… and for his age, very keen to please, so happy to be trained. For such a big dog too, like greyhounds, he becomes almost invisible in the house as he just wants to curly up and sleep. He responds well to coming back to his name in the dog park, calm and will make the perfect family member.

Thank you Scot & Kirsteen for getting Ringo out of kennels for Christmas, we’re so grateful to you both for welcoming him into your home.
