Rosie, 11mo Lurcher

Rosie had been rehomed but sadly the other dog wasn’t happy with this new young whippersnapper in her house so very reluctantly the family had to return her.

I am pleased to share their testimony as to Rosie’s loveliness here:

Rosie was a massive hit with our family… unfortunately not with our existing dog. Rosie’s youthful enthusiasm was simply too much for her. With very heavy hearts, we realised Rosie would be happier in a home where she can be her joyful, bouncy self without upsetting a resident canine.

Rosie is an exceptionally lovely dog and very affectionate. Her ideal position is on the sofa, preferably sitting on a person, but she will accept sitting next to them if necessary! She is a certified Velcro dog and will happily supervise you from room to room.

Because she loves her people so much, Rosie isn’t a huge fan of being left alone, just yet. This will need building up slowly, but she showed real improvement in the short time she was with us. With consistency and time, this is absolutely something she can grow confidence with.

Out and about, Rosie is a typical lurcher. She loves a good zoom, enjoys exploring, and will need at least two 45-minute walks a day – without that she will likely struggle to switch off. She’s great fun to walk both on and off lead, her recall is coming along nicely, and she’s friendly with both dogs and humans. She particularly enjoys fast play with other dogs. She is also extremely motivated by snacks, which makes training much easier (as much as “training” can be easy with a lurcher!).

Rosie does like to announce visitors when they arrive at the house, even ones she already knows. She barks at people in excitement, but not aggression. It felt a bit like her shouting hello, hello!! With reassurance and training, she was already settling quickly. However this might take a little bit of work to help her manage her excitement as it can feel a bit intense for visitors.

Rosie is fully housetrained and will ask to go out. She routinely slept through the night, though this may require accommodating her strong belief that beds are better shared! Car journeys started off with some anxious back seat commentary, but she quickly learned that cars lead to walks, which improved things greatly.

Rosie is a bright, quick learner with a big heart. She was relaxed around adults, unfazed by young people when out and about, and absolutely fine with our teenager.

We are really quite gutted it didn’t work out between the dogs, but Rosie has a gorgeous, loving personality and will make someone an incredible, loyal, life-long companion. Being such a gorgeous dog, I’d be surprised if she makes it to the end of the month at PADS.
