About Nala.
Nala is a large dog; Deerhound x Rottweiler x Mastiff, weighing around 27kgs.
She is very shy, as was her mother we are told. She will not approach new people and will often run away from them.
She enjoys playing with other dogs here at the kennels but is very easily frightened if they’re too full on – although she too can be full on when she’s comfortable!
She walks relatively well on lead, a wee reminder to stop pulling sometimes required but for such a large dog she is a pleasure to walk. Frightened of large vehicles such as buses, lorries and tractors, she prefers off-road walks.
She is house-trained but does not like being left alone.
She has lived with children but was frightened of the younger ones.
What kind of home do we need for Nala?
Nala seems to prefer women to men, and younger people to older people!
She’ll need someone with experience of nervous dogs, who will not force her into situations that she’s not ready for. She will come around but if she feels forced she will shut down.
Her own garden would be preferred, somewhere private where she is safe to play and toilet in peace without strangers leering at her. Nala will find walking around a busy street, housing estate or public park really overwhelming so a quieter location would be better for her.
