Bonita came to us as her owners were moving abroad. Bonita has lived in a kennel most of her life in a remote location and was only ever allowed in the kitchen of the home.
As such Bonita, also called Bonnie, is quite an anxious girl who is very wary of new people and frightened of handling. She will resource guard spaces she deems hers, such as a crate or bed and is especially protective of a bowl of food! She will shy away if you want to adjust her collar or perhaps retrieve a sticky willy from her face.
Bonita required sedatives to attend the vet with her last owner and was also treated in the practice car park because she was terrified. Our vet met with her at the kennels and took his big scary vet tabard off and she was briefly examined and given her annual vaccination.
Bonnie has a high prey drive and finds cats and small dogs very stimulating, she is too anxious to be walked on a busy park or beach at this time. Bonnie needs her own private and secure garden for off lead play as she just loves to chase a ball!
Anyone looking to adopt Bonnie will have to meet her a few times so that she builds up trust, when staff have been on days off it can take her a few minutes to realise who they are and let them approach.
Bonnie will need a household experienced in management of resource guarding. She has never lived with another dog but will play with dogs her own size with gentle introduction.
